Pozières battle

23 July 1916 at midnight, the first Australian Division, after a heavily bombardment during four days, attacked Pozières from the south and east south. The totality of the village was taked the 25 th. Then, the german artillery began a terrible concentrated shelling. On the east side, two fortified german lines, OG1 and OG2, always resisted (or fought) against all the assaults (or attacks).

The Second Australian Division relieved the first, too weaked. 28th and 29th July, a lot of attacks failed with very heavy losses. 4 th August, the two lines fell at the east rear of the village and the following day, the Australians entrenched around the ruins of the windmill, repelling many counter-attacks.
